Latest Free Patterns: The Ava Device Bag

The Ava Device Bag is a crossbody / shoulder bag is designed for carrying a small tablet about. It was inspired by Ava, a young lady who carries her iPad from home to her grandmother's.

The prototype is made from 100% cotton (including batting and threads) and is fully machine washable. Pussy-cat contrast fabric is part of the ZakkaWithAli signature. I recommend canvas or similar for the outer fabric. Ava chose cat fabric in and out enthusiastically. For fun, some purple and white polka-dot fabric was added to the mix.

This version of the bag has separate front, back and base pieces because the cat fabric has a specific direction. The top closure is velcro for ease of use.

In the back is a small pocket with a bright yellow zipper and fun polka-dot fabric lining. It is designed for gift cards, which the kids often receive. The polka-dot fabric is repeated on one side of the strap. Ava's bag has room for an iPad in a case fitting snugly for security.

The prototype was sewn on a Toyota Super Jeans Sewing Machine SPJ26XL.

Instructions are coming since changes had to be made during the prototyping.

The Lyn Device Bag

The Lyn Device Bag is fully padded with a quilted front, a stiffened back lining and an inner pocket.

The prototype is made from 100% cotton (including batting and threads) and is fully machine washable. Pussy-cat contrast fabric and purple canvas are part of the ZakkaWithAli signature. I recommend canvas or similar for the outer fabric. In this example the front fabric is from Ikea.

The measurements are for a netbook (or Macbook) and can be adjusted for notebooks. Although this was designed for Lyn's netbook, she uses it as a multi-purpose bag as it is bright, cheerful and it is convenient to use because of the structure. She says it is the perfect bag for a quick trip to the shops.

The prototype was sewn on a Toyota Super Jeans Sewing Machine SPJ26XL. Time to make 2 hrs.
